Help us maintain and promote our paths

Summary of idea

Over the last 5-6 years we have upgraded the paths throughout the Wick area making them accessible and also highlighting the history and nature that can be enjoyed when out walking by installing interpretive panels. If the paths are not maintained then they will get overgrown so it is important that fresh stone is laid and weedkiller applied every year. We have approximately 6.2 miles of paths under our management that in addition to maintaining we now want to produce a leaflet to promote the paths to both locals and visitors.

Why the contribution is important

Each application for this fund is to meet the criteria set out by the project Steering Group. More information about the project and the Steering Group is available here. 

The idea will support the following broad theme(s) to make a difference locally:

  • Safety and wellbeing - including mental health: Making sure that everyone in Caithness has the chance to lead safe, healthy, active lives.

 

How to vote 

  • Anyone can vote on as many or few ideas as they like 
  • We are using stars to cast votes and you have a maximum of five stars for each idea 
  • The more stars you give an idea, the more you support it
  • For example, if you really like an idea and want it to receive funding, you could give it five stars
  • You don't have to vote for everything but we would encourage you to explore all ideas
  • The ideas that receive the most votes will be successful until all of the £32,000 is spent.

    Wick Paths Group has made a tremendous improvement to the paths in and around the town to the benefit of both locals and visitors, this encourages more people to enjoy and benefit from the great outdoors

    WPG have already done so much for Wick. Walking is important to me and many other so much appreciate clear paths underfoot. To get a share of this money would I’m sure make a massive difference to further their weed killing

    Wick Paths Group have done a lot of hard work to improve the environment of Wick. They always needs money to purchase raw materials and equipment for the upkeep of these projects and future ones.

    Wick Paths Groups continued diligent efforts have not gone unnoticed and have improved life for all in every area they've worked in. They are a trusted, responsible, accountable, and cherished outfit who are very good community servants. Without question they would be well worthy of the entire award.

    What a difference this group has made to this town it is so much easier to walk on many paths in Wick which must encourage people to get out and get healthy

    The work of the group has greatly improved the path network and has encouraged others to keep the place spick and span with lone litter pickers also doing a grand job - together they make a huge difference for all to enjoy! Keep up the good work and trust that you will be supported by this funding opportunity.

    Wick Paths group are a group of dedicated volunteers who do fantastic work making the paths welcoming and accessible in and around Wick. Awarding this grant to Wick Paths Group would be fantastic as it would help them continue there outstanding work. Keeping the paths welcoming make it enjoyable to walk in and around Wick for local people and tourists.

    Following the great work carried out by the Wick Paths Group there has been a significant increase in usage of the local paths. Additional funding will help them maintain the paths.

    This is an amazing project and I for one am thankful as being visually impaired it has helped make where I live so much more accessible and safer. I can walk safely over bridges which were once hazardus with broken planks and down steps which were once broken thanks to these superb volunteers. Your hard work has helped keep me independent and mentally well despite my difficulties.

    The Wick Paths Group has done wonders to the local area making walks very pleasant and much easier access by an amazing amount of hardwork, to really transform access to local areas.

    Looking at some other bids I think you should ask for a bit more money. The paths and walkways make wick look a lot more attractive and are a benefit to tourists and locals alike. A great use of funding and a group of volunteers working hard to make a big difference.

    A very worthy cause. The Wick paths group have been around for some years, providing volunteering opportunities and recreational enjoyment to the area.

    Wick Paths group are a group of dedicated volunteers who do fantastic work making the paths welcoming and accessible in and around Wick. I take my dogs a weekly walk around several of the well preserved paths in Wick. The WPG need help financially and I do hope they get the amount requested. Well done to everyone involved.
