Youth Club

Organisation: The Clay Studio

This organisation was successful!

The Clay Studio is at the heart of Merkinch, a community facing generational poverty and social challenges such as unemployment, crime, addiction, and mental health issues. Our youth club is essential for providing local children and young people with a safe, supportive environment where they can grow and thrive, despite the obstacles they face. Run by local staff and volunteers, we have deep, trusting relationships with the families we serve, allowing us to tailor our support to their unique needs.

Our youth club offers much more than just a place to hang out—it’s a space where young people can engage in creative activities, learn about nature through our community garden, relax and chill out, socialise, play pool, do crafting, have their voices heard and greater self-autonomy and community engagement, due to access to project involvement, and gain valuable life skills like cooking and teamwork. This club also gives access to events such as Halloween & Christmas  parties, discos, where food and additional presents are offered. In addition to this , it presents opportunities such as Summer Club. We empower our young people with the ability to become young leaders, aiding in them developing their confidence, potential, and benefiting both interpersonal-relationships and better equip them for adult life and the future.

Amount requested: £4,700.80.

Why the contribution is important

Continuing the youth club at The Clay Studio will significantly enhance community integration and provide a safe haven for young people in Merkinch. By offering a welcoming and secure environment, the youth club keeps children off the streets and away from unsafe spaces, reducing their exposure to negative influences such as crime or addiction. This not only protects them physically but also mentally and emotionally, offering them a stable place where they can engage in positive activities.

The youth club fosters a sense of belonging, helping young people feel connected to their community. This connection encourages them to take pride in their surroundings and contributes to a more cohesive and supportive neighbourhood. By participating in structured, enriching activities, these young people are less likely to engage in antisocial behaviour and more likely to develop into responsible, engaged citizens.

Moreover, the presence of a youth club provides peace of mind to parents and guardians, knowing their children are in a safe, nurturing environment. This can reduce family stress and strengthen community bonds as families become more engaged with the club's activities. Overall, the youth club plays a crucial role in promoting safety, well-being, and community cohesion in Merkinch.
