Community Connections

Organisation: Youth Highland

Unfortunately, this organisation was not successful

Youth Highland will deliver an Introduction to Youth Work and Introduction to CLD training in Merkinch for community members, people working with or supporting young people and young leaders to help them understand and recognise how the professional practices of Youth Work and CLD can be a part of the preventative journey to working with young people to respond to the issues young people are facing.

The Introduction to Youth Work consists of 3 workshops aligned to the National Youth Work Induction Checklist;

> Part 1: Youth Work - Induction - a digital walk through of Youth Work history and theory that provide the context for the practice.  This part is self directed and provides a pretext to the in person workshops.

> Part 2: Youth Work - In Practice - a face to face workshop that builds on the existing knowledge gained in Part 1 and supports the participants to understand Young People and Youth Work in the context of their practice and community.

>Part 3:  Youth Work - Policy, Planning and Reporting - a second face to face workshop that supports participants to gain knowledge and understanding about the importance of proper planning and evaluation that align to both Regional and National Policy.

The CLD: An Introduction course is the first of an 8-part series of face-2-face workshops that we will deliver while we seek funding to deliver the rest.  This workshop gives participants a basic understanding of CLD methods and practice and how it fits into the Regional and National picture.

Amount requested: £1,915.

Why the contribution is important

With an increased understanding of Youth Work and CLD as professional practices we know that young people will be better supported and valued by the community that they live in.

Alongside an increase in safe spaces, safe and trusted adults we see that less young people hit crisis points in their lives and are more confident in actively participating in and creating opportunities within their community in partnership with adults.

The next step on the pathway following the Introduction to Youth Work is a PDA in Youth Work which is an SCQF Level 6 accredited course, will be an option to all successful participants opening doorways to further education, volunteering and employment for both older young people and adults.

All funded training opportunities will be delivered in Merkinch - venue will be sought if funding is successful - and we will work with interested participants to ensure that the time and dates enable maximum participation.  We will ensure that meals are provided during the training.

Link to priorities identified for the local area by children and young people:

  • Youth-led projects, youth empowerment and more trust in young people
  • More trusted people in our communities who help to keep young people safe
  • Learning and activities in the local community.
