After School Placements

Organisation: The Clay Studio

This organisation was successful!

The Clay Studio is seeking funding to expand our Thursday After School Club by providing five additional places specifically for Merkinch Primary School pupils in the Primary 4 to Primary 7 age group who wouldn't normally have access to such opportunities. This project is rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to creative education, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Our After School Club introduces children aged 6-14 to ceramics and mixed media, offering them a hands-on, engaging experience that fosters creativity, self-expression, and personal growth. Each term, we focus on a different theme, such as Natural Forms, Magical & Mythical Creatures, and Identity, allowing participants to explore various artistic techniques and concepts. Sessions are held every Thursday from 3:45 PM to 5:30 PM, and a healthy snack is provided.

This project aligns with the National Youth Work Framework by providing out-of-school education that supports young people's development in a holistic way. By expanding access, we aim to reach children who may not have access to such programs due to financial constraints or other barriers. These additional places will enable more young people to benefit from the structured, supportive environment we offer, where they can develop new skills, build confidence, and engage positively with their peers.

This will also give these five pupils access to Youth Club, parties and other events that the Clay Studio hosts.

Ultimately, this project is about inclusivity and ensuring that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to thrive through creative education.

Amount requested: £1,403.56.

Why the contribution is important

Providing five additional places in our Thursday After School Club will have a significant impact on children who typically lack access to extracurricular creative activities. By offering these spots to children who might not otherwise participate due to financial or social barriers, we are opening doors to new experiences that can positively influence their development.

The introduction to ceramics and mixed media not only nurtures creativity but also boosts self-esteem, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment. These sessions provide a safe, supportive space where children can explore their artistic abilities, develop new skills, and express themselves in ways they might not be able to during regular school hours.

This project also fosters social inclusion by bringing together children from diverse backgrounds, helping them build friendships, improve communication skills, and work collaboratively on projects. By participating in these creative activities, the children will experience personal growth that extends beyond the studio, enhancing their overall well-being and future prospects.

In short, these additional places will make a meaningful difference by providing children with opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive in a positive, enriching environment.
