Review approach of Police Scotland towards victims

A review is required of our approach toward victims of gender based violence to ensure the minimum amount of stress or trauma to the victim:

How we collect and handle evidence
Recorded victim statements
Ensure our officers are respectful of individuals, regardless of previous crimes committed or past interaction with victims
Consistent engagement between officers and victims to ensure that trust is maintained
Ensure the language used is clear and accessible for individuals with disabilities and for non-native English speakers
Having trained and regulated interpreters available when needed
Having dedicated police liaison officers
Scope for female officer only interactions if requested by victims

Why the contribution is important

This idea is from a stakeholder seminar hosted recently by Police Scotland and key partners. It relates to suggested Outcome 1 - Supporting Victims.
