Alternative reporting

Alternative reporting mechanisms and spaces:

  • Victims may feel more confident and safe to report crimes if they were able to do so in alternative locations to police stations
  • Victims may not feel they are able to report crimes to police as they do not want police present at their home due to living with their abuser/s or not wanting neighbours etc to see a police car and officers at their home
  • Police Scotland should make it known to individuals that instances do not always need to be reported criminally and have a process to work with non law enforcement services to help the victim

Why the contribution is important

This idea is from a stakeholder seminar hosted recently by Police Scotland and key partners. It relates to suggested Outcome 3 - Creating safe space
